Stylish Internet café by day and upscale wine bar by night, Café Notte will provide an alternative experience for those seeking productivity and comfort in addition to a divine meal. The stylish, 2,100 foot space has been conscientiously designed with ecology, technology, and sophistication in mind.
This vision of elegant versatility is the combined creation of partners The Salsberg Group and Restaurateur Nikola Camaj.
Nikola Camaj owns and operates one of the most popular, celebrity frequented restaurants on the Upper East Side. Erminia, which is conveniently located across the street from Café Notte, is known for both its high Zagat ratings and its romantic atmosphere. Camaj has been involved in farming and produce for many years, with over 25 years in the food business. He has strong ties to the community where his wife, Maria is an early childhood educator. Camaj is gifted with the ability to recognize and address the needs of the community; the inspiration for Café Notte stemmed from the need to create an alternative to the sports bars and college hangouts of the neighborhood and cater to a more mature crowd.
The Salsberg Group, managed by Orly Natan Salsberg is active in various entities in technology and special events as well as numerous non-profit organizations. The Salsberg Group are owners, operators and designers of US Small Passenger Ships—among them, the renowned Queen of Hearts.
Orly focuses on social responsibility in business, is an attorney in New York City and is currently earning her MBA at Columbia University. She spent countless hours during the design of Notte, merging the unique styles of the four family members.
Steven P. Salsberg, a New York attorney and founder of The Salsberg Group was appointed Vice Chairman by Mayor Bloomberg to the Council on the Environment of New York City. Steven is committed to making New York City restaurants environmentally responsible, and Café Notte is no exception.
Both friends and seasoned entrepreneurs, the Salsbergs and the Camajs, live on the Upper East side and each have toddlers. The Salsberg and Camaj families took great care in planning the comfort of Café Notte and have chosen to create a space that is not only user-friendly, but eco-friendly as well. Most impressive is the restaurant’s commitment to the environment, highly evident in everything from the food to the décor. Even in the early hours, the space has an unmistakable living room feel--rich yet cozy. All of the furniture, from the stylish banquettes and tables to the flight bar, are made from materials sourced from recycled or reused products. Low-voltage lighting only heightens the glamour of the dining area.
Café Notte begins serving coffee at 7am. For breakfast, fresh baked goods, frittata and house-made granola are available, made with all natural ingredients sourced from green markets, family-owned and fair-trade businesses. Lunch, which includes selections of cured meat and cheese plates, and lighter seasonal selections such as homemade soups, quiche, panini on their own house-made foccocia, and a variety of salads. In the evening the café undergoes a seamless transformation into an elegant dining experience, presenting an enchanting and unique menu that is Adriatic-influenced. Highlighting the seasonally inspired menu are daily selections from the city green market and a small-plate entrée list. The menu, resplendent with seasonal vegetables and green market products, includes a number of signature items such as Orange-scented Fish soup, Couscous Chop Salad with a pesto balsamic vinaigrette and the Port wine poached fig flatbread with gorgonzola and candied walnuts. The dessert menu features a Sweet potato torte with a pumpkin seed brittle and a variety of fresh fruits and sweets perfect for sharing.
After 10 pm, Café Notte transitions with ease and grace into an upscale wine bar. Framing the entrance to the main dining room, floor to ceiling wine racks feature over 100 fine international and domestic wines, including a “40 under 40” wine list that will impress even the most discerning oenophile. Access to “The Living Room”, a sleek, private lounge area, is available by reservation only. The sultry, elegant vibe of Café Notte makes every square inch feel very VIP.
